UCSL has established permanent capacity in Dunedin to efficiently meet the scope of work covering maintenance, renewal, and development work on Aurora Energy's electricity network in Dunedin.
The role of Trainee Cable Jointer is to undertake appropriate education and experience to be able to: - Terminate, joint and repair 400 volt, 11,000 volt and 33,000 volt cables.
- Undertake termination of new cables into switches, transformers, OCB's up to 33 kV, and undertake inline 11kV and 33kV through joints.
- Install new equipment and services both overhead lines and underground cables.
The Trainee Cable Jointer generally works under the direct supervision of a certified person. This is mandatory when exposed to any "live work" situations. he Key Responsibilities of the Trainee Cable Jointer are: Undertake appropriate education and experience to be able to: - Repair damaged cables up to 33 kV:
- Correctly preparing the area
- Eliminating the damaged section
- Re-Terminating the new section Provide line construction services by:
- Provide a maintenance service by:
- Maintaining and replacing ground mounted electrical assets
- Regularly maintaining and testing equipment to the required standard
- Provide a cable laying service by:
- Digging appropriate trenches
- Laying cables according to standards, specifications and plans
- Installing transformers and pedestals
- Recovering trenches
- Livening cables on completion of work.
General: - The Trainee Cable Jointer is often in close contact with customers and the public and needs to remain courteous and helpful at all times
- The Trainee Cable Jointer works in a team environment and must actively seek to support and protect fellow team members
- The Trainee Cable Jointer must be able to effectively apply first aid techniques when required.
- The Trainee Cable Jointer must liaise with the supervisor, colleagues, other utilities and digger operators to ensure safe and effective work practices.
- Carry out all work in compliance with correct procedres including any relevant legislation.
- Complete all documentation relevant to the performance of duties, equipment installed and removed.
- Terminate new cables into switches, transformers, OCB's up to 33 kV.
