Unison Contracting Services Limited is the contracting arm of Unison, one of New Zealand's largest electricity distribution businesses. Across Hawke's Bay, Taupo and Rotorua, Tauranga and Dunedin we have a staff of qualified professionals who are skilled in the following areas:

· traffic management
The role of the Designer is to design network and customer related projects (at 400V, 11kV & 33kV voltage levels) to ensure the orderly development of reticulation, optimum system reliability, security and the appropriate standards and statutory/regulatory requirements are met.
The Key Responsibilities of the Designer are:
- Perform appropriate planning (including running a pre-site walkover) and design of projects for reliability, security and quality of supply to Unison's and Power Co's current design and technical standards.
- Prepare technical specifications for contract works are in line with the network design and legislative requirements, including the Programme of Work model.
- Complete Design using Unison provided software including but not limited to Bentley (CAD) MicroStation.
- Provide appropriate information required for the technical, regulatory, compliance and financial justification for projects.
- Liaise with Supervisors/Project Managers to ensure the design is in line with construction methodology, and that it contains sufficient information to ensure efficient construction.
- Progress timely discussions between Unison and all other service and territorial authorities and utilities as necessary.
- Progress the negotiation and securing of easements and other property acquisitions within appropriate time frames.
- Complete design to handover stage to Project Managers and provide high level technical support during execution of projects.
- Participate in post project review.
- Ensure the safety in design requirements are taken into account when undertaking all complex design work.
We require you to have the following for this role,
- An appropriate qualification from the Electrical or telecommunication industry.
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience in the electrical or telecommunication industry. Ideally involved with construction.
Not essential but the following would also be desirable for this role.
- Knowledge of relevant acts, regulations and codes of practice.
- Electrical Registration as either a lineman or Electrician/Inspector. · Experience using CAD software or similar.
- Design experience in the electrical or telecommunication industry.
- An understanding around construction standards
