Operative/Skilled Operative

Rotorua, New Zealand

Unison Contracting Services is the contracting arm of Unison, one of New Zealand's largest electricity distribution businesses. Across Hawkes Bay, Taupo, Rotorua and Dunedin, we have a staff of qualified professionals who are skilled in the following areas:

  • Cable location
  • Power line audits, and power line upgrades
  • Tree trimming and removal
  • Fibre optic installation
  • Directional drilling
  • Trenching
  • Traffic management

The purpose of this role is to provide to the electrical construction business unit:

  • Skilled labouring
  • Traffic management
  • Heavy vehicle and plant operation

Key responsibilities:

  • General labouring
  • Traffic management
  • Supervision of small teams and/or sites, as required
  • Undertake general labouring or machine operation duties to the wider Unison Contracting Services Management Unit as required
  • Driving of vehicles, as appropriate to licences held
  • Handling of plant, as appropriate to licences and/or unit standards held
  • Care and maintenance of equipment
  • Boxing/concrete laying
  • All other tasks required to complete civil work and support the electrical installation works as mutually agreed

Qualifications and experience:

  • 2 - 5 years in general civil work methodologies
  • Some experience with small team and site supervision
  • 2 years' experience in traffic management
  • Experience in the operation of heavy vehicles and excavators
  • Level 1 STMS
  • Current, full and clean Class 2 Driver's Licence and have been deemed to be competent to operate an excavator and hold a current T endorsement
